Week (and a half) Recap

Good morning beautiful people, it’s been far too long since we’ve last caught up, so let’s do it on– a THURSDAY?!? HUH?! I apologize for not having some content available for your morning shenanigans, it’s been a crazy/busy time preparing for some potential life changing events (if you know you know). Let’s talk about some College Hoops, NFL offseason (THIS LEAGUE!) and everything else you need to feel like you’re not living under a rock. Let’s get it.

NFL:

Breaking news at the creation of this post: Wentz to the COLTS?!?! Let’s go!! My post football depression has been alleviated a bit by the ridiculous quarterback controversies surrounding what feels like every team, and it gives me a tiny bit of hope the Broncos will somehow land Deshaun Watson (or Russell Wilson?!?! /s). I don’t care what it takes, get it done. Give them Elway.

A Raiders twitter account went clout chasing with comments Pat McAfee said back in December about Derek Carr, which tells you everything you need to know about that disgusting excuse of a franchise. The amount of money you paid Marcus Mariota tells everyone you don’t believe in Carr that much either, bums. Now trade him to the Broncos.

Between the controversies and the draft, we’ll have a lot to talk about and I surely appreciate it.

College Hoops:

There were some compelling matchups across the mid-major landscape, none more infuriating than Loyola-Chicago@Drake. Darian DeVries deserves the Doug Pederson treatment after sitting his players halfway through the second half to rest them for the next night on a back-to-back. Both teams are clearly tournament worthy, but Darian DeVries just lost all credibility in my opinion and I will be actively rooting against Drake come march, scumbag. Between Villanova getting clapped by Creighton, UConn getting Bouknight back, and Xavier’s recent skid, the Big East will be must watch basketball leading up to their conference tournament.

Weekend Matchups:

2/18 No. 11 Iowa@No. 21 Wisconsin

Wisconsin has looked out of sorts at times throughout the season for a team whose starting lineup will be the first in the old folks home out of the 2021 class. Michigan shook off the first half rust to come back and win by 8 on Sunday and Illinois beat them by double digits the week before. Luckily they were able to play Nebraska to get a gimme win between those two matchups, but it’ll be a tough go for the pasty whites from Madison in this one. Hunter Dickinson had 11 points and 15 rebounds against them on Sunday, so imagine what the best player in the country will do. Hammer the Hawkeyes +2 in this system play.

Arizona@UCLA(-2)

No idea, I have not watched much of the idiocracy that is the Pac-12 to be honest. One of these teams will make the tournament, so you might as well watch? I got UCLA-2

Vermont@UMBC (2/19 as well):

UMBC, yes the 16 seed who upset Virginia, lost to NJIT last month which opened the door for Vermont–who have won 7 in a row to even their conference record with UMBC at 9-3. This weekend will decide who gets the 1 seed in the America East tournament, but I see this ending in a split. I’ll take UMBC in the front half of a back to back at home +4, though.

2/19: Wyoming@UNM

The fact it took overtime to squeak by a 5-11 UNM team last night tells you where our program is. We’re growing, we might even lose this one. For pride’s sake, hammer the pokes. I don’t know why I keep talking about them, I’m going to say the same thing every week…

USU@BSU

Hammer the Broncos. A hungry dog runs faster, and Utah State desperately needs to win out to bolster their resume, but I expect Boise State to assert themselves as the best team in the conference and give themselves a cushion heading into an awesome matchup against SDSU next weekend.

2/20: UConn@No.10 Villanova

Like I said, the Big East will be must watch and both of these teams have something to prove. UConn could get a Tier-1 win to solidify its resume and Villanova needs to keep pace to get their 2 seed back. I really want to take UConn in this game, but will probably chicken out and take the over.

No.15 Texas Tech@ No.23 Kansas

I just wanted to put this game down to let everyone know Tech got screwed in these rankings and Kansas does not deserve this 23 ranking at all. Tech lost to a good WVU team at home, had a Covid mishap, and dropped 8 spots. The Jayhawk’s best win came against this Tech team at the beginning of the season, but a pissed off Texas Tech team against these phonies might be my lock of the century.

No. 13 WVU@ No. 12 Texas

Just another great Big 12 matchup that will probably live up to its hype again, unlike the trash SEC, ACC or PAC-12. Thank God for some of the Mid-Major conferences stepping up and making things compelling because it seems like I’ve watched WVU, Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan and Illinois a billion times already. The number will probably be astronomical, but hammer the over and root for fun anyway in this game.

2/21 No.3 Michigan@ No. 4 Overrated Shitty University

Finally, I get to look forward to this game. Cleary, I can’t watch the football game because it ends in misery and loathing, but this is a perfect matchup for me to get my heart broke. Hail to the Victors.

Other sports:

NBA is playing basketball (kinda) and I’m still getting around to watching hockey. I just want to point out the Avs are an absolute wagon defensively and the Golden Knights gold helmets are heinous. And that was talking hockey.
