Weekend Recap

After starting off the weekend 0-3 on Thursday, we turned things around over the weekend and went 7-3 (see all my last minute picks on my twitter @morning_flush) bringing our total to 7-6. Not the greatest week, but hopefully we don’t get some of those bullshit bad breaks this upcoming week. Michigan is an absolute wagon and the Avs shitpumped the Coyotes, let’s have a great Monday.

College Hoops:

As a college hoops outsider, the best conferences in the country are the B1G, Big 12 and Big East and nobody can change my mind. Sure the Big East only has 4 tournament worthy teams, but any of these teams, other than DePaul, could pull off an upset if they were put into the tourney. UNC might be down, but they’re a bubble team who need as many wins as possible to bolster their resume, and they laid an egg against Marquette. Villanova lost by double digits to Butler and Xavier are back on the bubble after beating Creighton 3 nights after losing to Providence. It’s a crazy league, and if anyone other than the 4 tournament-worthy teams (Villanova, Creighton, UConn and Xavier) win it, I’m hammering them for a 1st round upset (matchup pending).

Michigan is the best team in the country and destined to rip my heart out, but I’ve learned to just ride the wave of emotions of being a Wolverine fan. Hail to the victors.

College Football:

The end of an era looks like it has arrived in Fargo as NDSU lost for the first time in 39 games. Although they were 2-0 heading into the matchup, they would’ve typically blown out teams such as Central Arkansas and Youngstown State. Everybody is beating everyone in the FCS: Illinois State lost to South Dakota and Northern Iowa lost to South Dakota State, who lost to North Dakota. Holy shit, I’m boring myself just typing these teams, so if you’re going to watch this FCS football: follow Coach Prime at Jackson State and I’ll take James Madison University to win it all.

NHL:

Let’s look past the 6-2 loss to the Wild, the Avs played 4 straight games against a brick shit house in the Golden Knights and split the series. They then took care of business with a series against the Coyotes: beating those pigeons 3-2 and 6-2. Avs jerseys were out in full force in Westgate (masked up of course, we’re in a pandemic) celebrating a dub. With a couple winnable series against the Sharks and Ducks coming up before playing the Coyotes again at home, the Avs are in a good spot to pick up some points in the West.

It’s great to see the young talent such as Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews. McDavid is on pace for over 100 points and Matthews is on pace for 52 goals in a 56 game season. As great as it is to see them become the faces of hockey, it’s awesome to see Marc-Andre Fleury having a renaissance to his career. Let’s just all hope for the rare ‘tender goal so Pat McAfee has to shell out $100,000: full interview with Flower here.

Other sports:

The NBA is playing basketball. Collin Morikawa won the Workday Championship while some other driver won a Nascar race in the 24 car. Talking soccer: Liverpool got a desperately needed win and Manchester (is full of shit) United complained about other managers whining about calls…THIS LEAGUE. Love you, bye.
