Before ya’ll try to obliterate me for going 7-7 on Sunday, let’s reflect on the great Saturday we had…10-2?! If you’re going to get upset over a 17-9 weekend, you got a big dump in your pants. Enough of the pats on the back, let’s take a moment to reflect on the chaotic weekend.
NFL Early Slate
My strategy of betting against the Texans and Eagles every week backfired big time, but I’m not going to let wins over the Jaguars and the Falcons slow me down. Urban Meyer is on my personal hot seat for shitting the bed against a team with a bunch of has-been running backs, a journeyman quarterback and Brandin Cooks. Likewise, I really thought the Falcons would try to establish a run game and utilize the run game to set up Kyle Pitts and Calvin Ridley…but they STUNK. Jalen Hurts, however, did look really good, and credit to me for saying DeVonta Smith was the best receiver on Alabama’s offense last year.
The Bills…look…I love Sean McDermott, he’s a great coach because he usually has a good pulse for how the game is going. I don’t hate the decision to go for it 4th and 1 on the Steeler’s 41…but THAT PLAYCALL WAS ATROCIOUS. If I heard Brian Daboll make a call to throw a swing pass behind the line of scrimmage to MATT BREIDA, I’m immediately calling timeout and punting. That was a huge momentum swing in a game the Bills defense controlled.
Vikings… tough break yeah? To be honest I was watching most of the other early slate, but if I’m a fan there were some positives with Kirk Cousins bringing them back and a questionable fumble ended a promising OT drive. The Bengals are going to take a step this year and give teams fits, so I wouldn’t be terribly concerned.
Other games: Kyler Murray was incredible against a Charmin soft Tennessee defense, the Lions won’t quit with Dan Metallica Campbell and Raljon is still a piece of shit stadium that dumped gallons of piss water on fans. Side note: Tyler Lockett is a walking highlight reel and the Jets/Panthers played a game…allegedly.
NFL Late Slate
If the Browns were a college team in the BCS era, they’d climb in the rankings after what we saw yesterday. I still feel bad for Browns fans because they controlled that game for 3 ½ quarters until a dropped punt gave Mahomes a short field and a pick on a promising drive sealed their fate.
The Pats are going to be back too, they got another good one in Mac Jones. They’re going to win games by running the football and playing defense, but Mac Jones isn’t going to lose them many games this year.
Jameis Winston is a future hall of famer (I already told you last week he’d be good, you’re welcome) and the Packers are doing the same shit they do every year, I just wish they’d score a few more points for us over bettors.
THE BRONCOS ARE BACK, FUCK ALL OF YOU DOUBTERS, WE’RE PLAYOFF BOUND THIS YEAR!
It felt like the Bears had the ball all night last night while Cris Collinsworth inexplicably had Matt Nagy’s back the entire broadcast for starting Andy Dalton over Justin Fields. Every dump off Dalton completed it felt like he was affirming the decision with “this is what Justin Fields can learn from Andy Dalton”…being the definition of average? I’m a Cris Collinsworth defender, but last night was awkward.
