Wyoming is a fucking wagon and the rest of the nation is finally starting to recognize how truly special this team is. Again…not going to jinx it…I’ve already put out enough hype in the cardiac cowboys blog, so let’s move on. A couple new faces in the bracket this week, so let’s take a look at who’s in and who’s on the cusp of making the tourney.
Last 4 In
Miami
After spending so much time defending the Hurricanes and calling them “legit contenders in the ACC”, they’re suddenly in a play in game after dropping a game at home to Notre Dame and Losing by double digits on the road to Virginia. Not enough for me to give them the boot, but definitely enough to put them on bubble watch.
St. Louis
This is a team on the rise with a good test at home against the Bonnies tonight. One of the most slept on teams in the nation is in my bracket as an 11 seed play-in team.
SMU
I gassed them up in the last bracketology and they came through with a huge win over Houston. If they can avoid disaster and notch another quality win against Witchita St or Cincy, the Mustangs are in the clear to make the tourney.
Florida
As I said in the last bracketology, I’m still not buying the gators, but they’re winning the games they’re supposed to and losing games against quality opponents. They have a tough back half of the schedule with Kentucky (twice), Auburn and Arkansas. If they can get a win in just one of those games, I’ll start to buy into the Gators.
First 4 out
Belmont
With an absolutely HUGE win against Morehead State last night, the Bruins are in a good spot to steal a bid from one of the 4 teams above if they slip up. They have a quad 1 win opportunity against Murray State, but I like their chances if they win every other game and can make it to the Ohio Valley finals.
MICHIGAN!!
With an ENORMOUS, COURT STORMING win against Purdue, Michigan is squarely in the bubble conversation. They hit the skids around their Covid pause, but this team can make a run in the B1G tournament and the NCAA tournament. Hail to the Victors.
Rutgers
The only thing the Scarlet Knights do is collect Q1 wins…and devastating losses. For every great win (Ohio State, Michigan State, Purdue) Rutgers has, there’s a shitty loss (Depaul, UMass, Northwestern) on their resume. The most polarizing team in the country deserves to be in the conversation, but I would put a couple other mid-majors ahead of them.
Memphis
People forget I led the “Memphis was screwed” rallying cry last year when they were snubbed from the tournament, just because I bet on Tulane. I’m sorry I picked against your beloved Tigers on one of my worst gambling nights in the history of The Flush. The Tigers’ non-conference resume is as impressive as anyone in the country, but they’ve had some ugly losses in the heart of their schedule. With three straight road games against Houston, Cincy and SMU, the Tigers have a great opportunity to build a tournament worthy resume before their final home matchup against Houston and the AAC tourney.
4 days in a row, an undefeated night, with picks and Super Bowl props coming? The Morning Flush is firing on all cylinders down the stretch. Jump on the bandwagon and tell your friends. Love you, bye.
