Bracketology 5.0

The top 12 pretty much held serve outside of Auburn sliding down a few spots on the 1 line, but a lot of tug-o-war between middling tournament teams and bubble teams with seeding. With some smaller tournaments starting as soon as next week, it really is nut cuttin’ time in College Basketball.

Last Four in

Indiana

After about 2 straight weeks of losing, the Hoosiers finally found the win column at home against Maryland. They’re safe, for now, but with games against Rutgers and Purdue on the horizon, they may have work to do in the B1G tourney to find themselves in the tournament. The loss at Northwestern 2 weeks ago really screwed the pooch for them.

TCU

The win at home against West Virginia kept the Horned Frogs from falling out of the bracket. They’ve lost 4 of their last 5 with two dates against Kansas, home vs Texas Tech and a road game against West Virginia to end the season. I don’t love their chances, but 1 win while taking care of business against the Mountaineers, and TCU is comfortably in.

Michigan

They Wolverines are a bit behind the eight ball after Juwan Howard was assaulted last weekend. i said last week they need to go .500 to solidify their tournament status before conference tourney play, the expectation is still the same. Hail.

SMU

The Mustangs should be comfortably in this bracket, if they hadn’t lost a trap game to Temple before playing a true bubble game against Memphis, but we found out Temple is a bit frisky after they followed up their performance against SMU with a road win at Cincy. SMU is safe for now, but there are some teams in their conference who can take this spot if they slip up down the stretch or in the conference tourney.

Last 4 out

Memphis

Memphis has some work to do, but if they can find a way to the American finals or maybe the semis, they should be in.

Florida

If the Gators didn’t shit down their leg against A&M in a trap game before Auburn, they’re undoubtedly in the field. After a tough loss to Arkansas, Florida has lost 3 of their last 4 with work to do to get back into the conversation.

Saint Bonaventure

Since winning back-to-back games against St. Louis, the Bonnies haven’t had a chance to show why they belong in the tournament, but they also haven’t flopped either. They’ll have two opportunities against VCU and Richmond to close out the regular season. The A10 is getting absolutely disrespected this year, but if they can go .500 in those games and take care of business against St. Joseph’s, they’ll be in good shape heading into the conference tourney.

Virginia Tech

I’m new to bracketology, but I cannot for the life of me understand how some bracketologists have Va Tech in their bubble conversation one week, go 2-1 (with the loss being to North Carolina, a tournament team), and remove them entirely from the conversation the next. They have a HUGE matchup on the road at Miami tomorrow that will either make or break their tournament chances.
