We still have a couple futures alive with Wagner, Charleston, Purdue FW, Chattanooga and Furman (we have the Southern conference locked down, no matter what). There are also a couple longshots still alive such as Oral Roberts and we still have a ton of conference tournaments to go. Let’s go undefeated from here on out.
Atlantic 10 (Starts 3/9)
One of the most shit on conferences by bracketologists should be a fun tournament to watch. For some bullshit reason, there are a lot of bracketologists with only one team in the field and no teams on the bubble. That’s a travesty for such as strong, top-heavy conference. Davidson is the 1 seed and the favorite to win the conference (and ridiculously an 11 seed in some nerds’ brackets), with VCU, Dayton and St. Bon right behind them. Dayton just took down Davidson at home, and you can get them at decent value at +350. I like VCU at +450. They’ve got a couple tough tests with Richmond and Dayton, but I like them to win both of those games and they’ve proved they can beat Davidson or St. Bon from the opposite side of the bracket.
Big East (Starts 3/9)
From top to bottom (outside of Georgetown), this conference is full of national championship contenders or frisky teams who can spoil someone’s season. I’ve got a future on Villanova, and they’re the favorites to win the conference in the two seed at +150, I’d stay away from this though with UConn on the same side of the bracket. Maybe hedge the two. Providence is the number 1 seed, some are calling them the “luckiest” team in the country because some KenPom spreadsheet told them so, but they’ve played in a ton of close games and weathered the storm to this point. Despite them being an 8 seed in this tournament, I like Xavier’s draw to a potential Final. You get outstanding odds with them at +2000, so it’s definitely worth a sprinkle. I like them to beat Butler, then they play the Providence team with a horseshoe up its ass, then either Marquette or Creighton to get to the Final against either Villanova or UConn. This tournament will be a cagematch.
MAAC (Starts 3/8)
Iona is the overwhelming favorite in this conference, and for good reason. I agree with most bracketologists who have them as a 13 seed and one of the best small mid-major conference *projected* champions in the nation. I wouldn’t waste your money on betting on anyone else, but if you feel like lighting a 5 dollar bill on fire, Saint Peter’s or Siena are not bad bets. You can surprisingly get Iona at +115, I would hammer this.
WAC (Starts 3/8)
The WAC was a war until the end of the regular season, with a 3 team log jam at 14-4 at the top of the conference and two teams at 13-3 behind them. Through tie-breakers and circumstance, New Mexico State and Seattle got byes until the Semi-Finals. NMSU is the favorites at +150 (not bad odds considering they only have to win 2 games) and Seattle is at +400 (worth a sprinkle). I like Grand Canyon at +330, but they have to go through New Mexico State to get to the final, so I’ll probably stay away. SF Austin is at +600, and has to go through Seattle to get to the final, I think this is a better sprinkle than GCU. If you’re looking for a long shot lottery ticket, Sam Houston is at +2500, and have beaten both GCU and NMSU in the regular season. Not a bad option.
We’re still in the money in most of the tournaments we’ve gone over so far. Let’s keep finding value in the crumbs. Picks coming out soon!
