I’m just happy Wyoming is in the tournament, but you bet your ass if they found a way to miss this thing we’d be rioting here at the Morning Flush. I’m not near as chapped as I am that mid-majors who won their conference tournament have to play a play in game to face a number 1 seed. What kinda bullshit is this? Wright State won the Horizon Hagen league, then have to turn around and play Bryant, a team with the number one scorer in the nation in Peter Kiss, then will have to turn around 2 days later and get their asses handed to them by Arizona. Bullshit. We got picks to make, so let’s do it.
Tuesday
Texas A&M-CC vs Texas Southern(-3.5) (136)
3:40 PDT truTV
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was fortunate to avoid New Orleans in the Southland final, and their record is inflated by a weak conference, even by mid-major standards. The SWAC is by no means a powerhouse conference, but if you take a look at Texas Southern’s non-conference, it’s a gauntlet. I remember hammering them to cover against an overrated BYU team early in the year because they seemed statistically due for a win, but continued to lose 7 games in a row before beating Florida in Gainesville. Hammer them to win here.
Wyoming vs Indiana (-4) (132.5)
6:10 PDT-truTV
I’m feeling more and more confident in this game as we get closer to tip. I like our Pokes to cover here and I also am in love with the under. What?! Did you see what Indiana did in the B1G tournament?! They had to play that tempo to push the pace on some of these superior teams, expect their offense to look more methodical in this game. As for Wyoming, we all know what the offense is going to look like, whether it’s maldo backing a dude down or frantically passing the ball around to get Ike a look in the post or kick it out to Jeffries. Snails pace. Pokes by a billion.
Wednesday
Bryant vs Wright State(-3.5) (155)
What are you doing?! Haven’t you heard Bryant has the nations leading scorer in Peter Kiss and he’s going to ironically wear a kiss shirt in pregame warmups?! Yes, and Bryant was a wagon in a two team conference between themselves and Wagner, but the Horizon was a cage match night in, and night out. Both teams are ridiculously under seeded for this tournament, but I’ll take the battle-tested Huskies in what will essentially be a home game for them.
Notre Dame vs Rutgers(-1) (132)
Everyone and their dog seems to be on Rutgers, and for good reason. They went on an unprecedented run in the regular season to put themselves in the bubble conversation with 4 Q1 wins in 2 weeks. They followed that up by losing 3 of their last 5, with one of those victories being a 1 point win at home against an admittedly frisky Penn State, and a 10 point loss to Iowa in the B1G tourney. I’m not hammering Notre Dame here by any means, but I’m confidently taking the value we’re getting with their more consistent squad.
Alright, now that we know who’s winning the play in games, let’s fill out some brackets!
