Here we are, the moment we’ve all been waiting for and I’ve secretly been dreading. I’m fired up for these games, I love the upsets and the excitement early on in the tournament, but by the Final Four, you want to have the best teams and classic games. An all blue-blood Final Four with crazy storylines on each side of the bracket. Let’s get into it.
Duke(-4) vs North Carolina (151.5)
I’d prefer to stay away from the total altogether because these teams have had almost a week to prepare for each other. The over seems like the obvious play with both teams averaging over 76 points per game and ole style defense (written meme of a bullfighter waving his red cape to let Armando Bacott and Paolo Banchero go to the basket). This might be a live bet, but something tells me the refs are not going to call this tight at all and let them play, which favors the under.
Maybe its my burning desire to see Coach K fail during this annoying 10 month retirement tour he’s been on, but I love UNC +4. Regardless of the winner, it’s going to be close if the refs don’t dictate the pace of this game, and the Tarheels have been electric the last month and a half. They pissed on his last game at Cameron Indoor, but how great would it be to see Duke’s bitter rival bury this clown. I’m biased, but Tarheels by a billion.
Villanova vs Kansas (-4) (133)
I had already all but written off my Villanova future in the last blog, but I’m starting to come around on the Wildcats. Jay Wright is running a Fortune 500 company here at Villanova, and their assets will be good to go after a week of rest and preparation. Caleb Daniels was essentially apart of the starting rotation as a 6th man off the bench, averaging over 25 minutes and 10 points per game, oh and the dude grew up in NOLA and started his college career at Tulane before transferring to Nova. Bryan Antoine was a McDonald’s All-American when he enrolled at Villanova, and the guy had surgery on his torn labrum before even suiting up for the Wildcats in 2019. He won’t be a starter, but could you imagine the story if he gets more minutes and hits a big shot to keep the Wildcats dancing? I’m a believer in both these dudes as long as Jay Wright is calling the shots, Wildcats +4.
I’m less sold on the total, if you’re a chicken shit like me you can take an alternate Nova line with an alternate over for one bet with an alternate under for another bet and hope the final total lands somewhere in the middle. Life’s too short to bet the under.
The Time Has Come
It’s the last weekend of the tournament which means a dark time in sports is right around the corner. We have the Masters next weekend with the start of baseball, so we’ll pretend to care for a couple weeks before neglecting it until June. The NFL draft creates some buzz, then Hockey and NBA playoffs will keep us moderately entertained until their Finals. I don’t mean to sound doom and gloom, but if you didn’t soak up every ounce of this college basketball season, you have noone to blame but yourself. Enjoy this last tasty morsel before the championship. Love you, bye.
