Coach K is done. D-U-N, done. Thank you to UNC, we’re forever grateful for what you accomplished Saturday night, and congratulations for having a trump card on any snot nosed Duke fan for the rest of your life. Anytime any of those Juris Doctor degree carrying dorks try to talk smack, you can tell them you buried their beloved coach in his final game at Cameron Indoor AND his final game *chef’s kiss*. Thank you for being such a cash cow the last month, my gambling account is forever grateful.
That game was so electric and lived up to the hype to the point it made me forget about the Nova/Kansas game and how big of an idiot I am for not using a profit boost and taking Kansas as a future. Kansas has been dominant and shown they can beat you in any game you want to play. You shooting clinic? Remy Martin and Christian Braun will hit the big shots. A track meet? Ochai Agbaji will beat you down the court and finish with a rim-rattling dunk. Providence saw what happened when you try to muddy it up and turn the game into a rock fight…its tough when you’re going against a rim protector like David McCormack. I’ve said since the beginning they’re the deepest team in the tournament which means its up to Bill Self and the brain under his toupee to push the right buttons.
UNC vs Kansas (-4) (151.5)
If you couldn’t read between the lines with the set-up to these picks, I love Kansas. Granted, I’m hedging a bit against my bracket (if Kansas wins, I fall out of the money, if they lose, I take second), but I really believe they’re the immovable object in the “unstoppable force meets an immovable object” idiom. The problem with Kansas is they’re a really good second half team, so they’re difficult to hedge if things look sloppy in the first half. If you’re taking Kansas too, you can also tease it with an alternate under. I think this game will be really close for the first 30-35 minutes before Kansas starts to pull away toward the end and we end up in a dribble-out situation, favoring the under. Even with a UNC fouling situation, Kansas is good enough at free throws to drop guys back and set up their defense, favoring both them and the under.
If you’re fading me and taking UNC, congratulations on winning your bet. You should also take an alternate over because the Tarheels do not want to get into a rock fight against a more physical, deeper Kansas team. They will try to push the pace on Kansas and turn this game into a track meet, so if they can keep this game close, it favors the over. If the officiating from the Final Four is indicative of how they will call tonight’s game, you’re on the right side.
If you wanna get really crazy (like I likely will) you can try to get lucky and middle everything by teasing both the over and the under (we’re looking at somewhere between 142-162 total points) and anywhere from Kansas +5.5 to UNC +9.5 (without losing too much juice) and hope like hell the score lands somewhere in between these numbers.
Read every article, watch every story, listen to every podcast. This is the last drop from our pitcher of college basketball, and I’m going to drink it up. Luckily, the Masters is right around the corner; love you, bye.
